13 Year-Old Student Found To Have Handgun At School

Last Friday at Johnston Heights Secondary in Surrey a 13 year-old student was caught possessing a handgun. Another student reported this fact to teachers. At the time the gun was not loaded, but the 13 year-old did have ammunition for the weapon.

The boy was arrested and kept over the weekend in custody. It is unclear if the boy will ever be allowed to return to the school. Apparently the boy had taken the weapon from a safe in his home. Police found an AK-47 assault rifle inside the home safe as well.

Doug Strachan of the Surrey school district says that it seems the boy did not intend on threatening anyone with the weapon, only to keep it as self-defense. Details of this incident were not released to the public until now as the police and school board wanted to first complete their investigation.
