Government of Canada Announces Appointment

Rona Ambrose, the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, announced the appointment of Mr. Christopher Dumfries to the posistion of Payments in Lieu of Taxes Dispute Advisory Panel. Mr. Dumfries is from NewWestminster, British Columbia. The Payments in Lieu of Taxes Dispute Advisory Panel plays an important role in the fuctioning of the federal government.

This appointment comes after the June 28th announcement of 15 members to the Panel. The role of this Panel according to Mr. Ambrose is that "it acts as an impartial review and advisory forum where municipalities and other Canadian taxing authorities can present their concerns regarding the payments in lieu of taxes with respect to federal real property and Crown corporation property."

The payments made through this program are discretionary from the federal government to other taxing authorities such as municipalities, provinces, and First Nations.
