January is half over, hard as it is to believe, it's almost time again for Valentine's Day. I remember how when I was single I used to hate Valentine's Day as it was a constant reminder of being alone. It's a time when couples rejoice and celebrity their companionship. It's a miserable day when you're all alone and painfully reminded of this fact. When you're alone you try and think of Valentine's Day as a day created solely by the corporate world to push sales of cards, flowers and candy. It doesn't have to be that way.

Last year, instead of deciding to be lonely again and spend Valentine's Day all alone I decided to do something about it. In fact, Valentine's Day presented an excellent opportunity to meet someone new and find romance. Instead of viewing the upcoming day in a negative way, I decided to view it as a positive force. This force would help me to overcome shyness and help me find the right person to spend this day of joy with.

I thought about my friends and tried to think if any one of them would be appropriate to ask out on a date. But, I couldn't view any of my friends as anything more than just friends. I decided that it was time to meet someone new, someone special that I could imagine spending romantic evenings with. That's when I decided to take my search online into the world of internet dating.

I tried to find the right website for me to find my perfect match. As it turned out, I met the most amazing person through an online dating introduction service. We've been happily together now and this Valentine's Day is going to be fantastic. I didn't put much faith in online dating until I tried and it just happened that I found my perfect match - perhaps my soul mate.

Online dating may not guarantee that you're going to find your perfect match or soul mate, however, it does provide you with a unique opportunity to find someone with similar interests who's also alone and in search of their perfect mate. There are so many online dating sites that it's impossible to try them all. Sometimes it's a good idea to join one or two dating sites and search for your perfect match. There are a few good sites which I can recommend. Yahoo.com Personals and Yahoo.ca Personals are fantastic ways to meet singles. Yahoo makes it easy to search for a man, a woman, gay, lesbian, christian, or jewish singles. I find that Yahoo is a reputable dating service and it has thousands of members in my area. It's easy to browse through and find the right person to go on a date with.

If you don't like the idea of online dating then Valentine's Day is an excellent reason to ask out someone you already know or have just met on a date. Think about it this way, there are other singles out there who are lonely on Valentine's Day too and they'd love to be out having fun with you rather than sitting alone at home. You can always try blind dates if you have friends or relatives that would like to introduce you to someone new. From my experience though, blind dates don't always work out. I found that online dating was the best way to meet someone special.
