Vancouver Boom Leading to Black Market

The Vancouver building boom is helping to fuel a black market in antiquities. With record numbers of old homes being demolished to make way for new developments criminals are seizing an opportunity.

Criminals are breaking-in to old homes ready for demolition to salvage antiques. Vancouver Police say that many items are being stolen from these ready to be torn down homes. Items being stolen include original hinges, chandeliers and old growth hardwood flooring.

These items are stolen and then sold by dealers. Police say that this is difficult crime to prevent and tackle.
